What is Florida Reciprocity?

If another state recognizes Florida’s concealed weapons license, then Florida Statute 790.015 allows Florida to recognize that state’s concealed weapons license. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services maintains a list of states whose concealed carry licenses/permits are recognized by Florida.  It also maintains a list of those states that recognize Florida’s Concealed Weapon and Firearm License (CWFL).

States that Florida Recognizes (accurate when written on 05/23/2019)

Florida recognizes out of state permits held by residents from: AL, AK, AZ, AR, CO, DE, GA, ID, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MI, MS, MO, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV, WY.

Florida does not recognize non-resident permits.  You must be a resident of the state that issued your permit for reciprocity to apply.

States that Recognize Florida (accurate when written on 05/23/2019)

As of 2019, Florida’s concealed weapons and firearms license is recognized in: AL, AK, AZ, AR, CO*, DE, GA, ID, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME*, MI*, MS, MO, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA*, SC*, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV, WY

Residency Requirement

As a cautionary note – some states, like Florida, only recognize a permit from another state if that permit holder is a resident of the state from which the permit was issued.  This means, if you recently moved from Florida to Ohio and do not have an Ohio concealed weapons license yet, some states will not honor your Florida concealed license because you are no longer a resident of Florida.  Further, a few states, like Florida will issue a concealed carry permit/license to a person who does not live in their state. These are called non-resident licenses/permits.

The following states do not recognize non-resident license/permits issued by the state of Florida:  Colorado, Maine, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina.

Weapons Allowed for Concealed Carry

Florida allows one to carry handguns, stun guns, knives, tear gas guns and billies with the CWFL.  Not all states allow weapons other than handguns to be carried. When you travel in different states, be aware that you may only be able to carry a handgun concealed with your CWLF, not knives, other firearms or weapons.

States that limit concealed carry under a Florida CWFL to handguns ONLY are AL, AK, AZ, AR, CO, IN, KS, LA, ME, NE, NV, NH, NM, NC, OH, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, WV, WY.
